Sometime it's the mundane, everyday stuff that will kill you. Or at least make you hurt really bad. I called my karate senior to explain my absence for this week due to my back problems, and he completely topped it with his own tale of woe, which was so awful it pretty much made mine look like a stubbed toe.
It seems he was out mountain biking on December 31st and part of the ride included crossing a Home Depot parking lot to get to a trail. He didn't see a small curb and before he knew it he had landed right on it in such a way as to bust his femur near the hip. He said the pain was so bad he couldn't sit up without almost passing out. He had to have surgery on it the next day, and now has a 16" titanium rod keeping the broken parts in place. Yikes. And now for 6-8 weeks of healing and therapy. One would expect such an injury to occur from a tumble off a ridge or something, not a parking lot curb.
The ego definitely takes a hit on that one.
