The past few months have left little breathing room for blogging. January was spent doing the library inventory and the library website revamp. February was spent mostly on the revamp and dealing with the beginning of classes. And a set of workshops on being a department chair (as I was elected to do this for my department, starting in July). Then my dean announced her retirement, and the scramble was on to get valuable information from her before she left.
My president asked me to be on an accreditation team in Los Angeles in March, which involved hundreds of pages of readings and writing up findings during a visit to a campus. I took some time off work in March to finish up some doctoral schoolwork. Meanwhile, we had thousands of dollars worth of books to purchase, so March and spring break flew by as work days. I then took a few days off in April to regroup. Which is when I found some time to work on the web site for SDWC, including moving the site to a different host and setting up some email accounts. Our 20th anniversary concert is June 2nd.
Doctoral classes started up again on April 8th, and things haven't settled down since; I barely have time for homework. Last weekend (4/14 & 4/15) was the annual retreat for SDWC, where we basically rehearse for a day and a half. Friday 4/20 I was part of a librarian panel presentation to faculty, regarding the use of electronic resources in online classes. Saturday 4/21 the social committee in my condo association hosted a tour of homes, and I was one of the docents, in addition to having developed the brochure for the tour (all done sometime the previous week). I'm lucky if I get in one session of karate a week.
I'm looking forward to having some time off from work in May, but will still have my doctoral class to attend to. In June I have a week's worth of seminars in Anaheim (Capella calls these "colloquia"). I don't see things slowing down any time soon....
